Treat Them Well

One of the ways you can ensure the highest payment for your broken LCDs is to ensure they are safely packed before shipping. Place LCD screens face to face with flex cables positioned in the same direction. This protects LCDs as well as provides more space within your shipment. Place such pairs in bubble bags with flex cables positioned towards the opening of the bag. Wrap sets of 6-10 screens in a rubber band tight enough to keep them together, but not too tight to cause damages. Place them in a cardboard box with a layer of crinkled newspaper or bubble wrap on the bottom, sides and top of box.

We Recommend:

Manufactures do not design LCD screens to withstand the elements once removed from a handset. Pressure points, dust, dirt, moisture and the chances of electronic static discharge are greatly increased once removed. An adequate packing job can lower an overall yield by as much as 10%. We’ve seen “poor” packing jobs reduce overall yield by 10%-50%. Consider a safe storage area for your LCD screens the moment they’re removed from mobile device. Placing the defective LCD screen back into a bubble bag or a storage sleeve is considered best practice. If possible, conduct a repair job in an anti-static environment and store LCD screens in a moisture free area. It’s a good idea to store LCD screens in a bin with a removal lid to prevent moisture, dust and static shock. Bad LCD screens caused by flex damage have little to no value. The cost to reclaim is very high.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SCREENS

Please note that we can only accept OEM (original) and non-OEM (refurbished) screens, not third-party “copy” displays. We accept screens with broken glass, but we require the underlying digitizer and the display itself to be in working order. The screen must have no defects, dead pixels, dark patches or flickering. Before sending your screens to us, you must send an email with quantity and please wait for answer before shipping. Once we have received the screens, we will check each of them to confirm that they are still working as requested above. We’ll then send you an email report covering our findings.
If the screens were sent to us for recycling, we will offer payment at our standard rates for those in sufficient working order. (This can be via PayPal only). Any screens diagnosed as not working will either be returned to you or disposed of according to your preference.
While we accept that it isn’t always possible to test screens before they’re sent to us- and that they can sometimes be damaged in transit (see our guide on how to avoid this)- please do not send screens to us that you already know to be unfixable (i.e. touch/digitizer not working, or broken display itself).

WHY PACKING IS IMPORTANT

It’s often assumed that because the front glass on the screens is already broken, it doesn’t matter how they’re packed. This definitely isn’t the case- it’s very important that you pack your screens correctly- both when storing them, and when sending them to us. Did you know that a barely-adequate packing job before delivery can reduce the yield of recoverable screens by as much as 10%? Or that a poor job (i.e. sticking them in a box with no protection) can reduce it by as much as 50%? The flex cable that attaches the screen assembly to the rest of the phone or tablet can easily get bent or pressed back at the point of attachment (rather than in the middle) and get damaged, resulting in it not working at all. More broken glass on the screen (than was already there) can further weaken the assembly structure and increase the risk of damage to the underlying LCD or other parts. Although we’re good, we’re not responsible for screens damaged on the way to the workshop. We test that every one is in the originally described condition when it comes in- whether we’re buying them from you, or recycling them on your behalf- so it’s certainly in your interest to ensure that none are damaged on the way here!

PACKING FOR STORAGE

We recommend that even when storing broken screens, you keep them in (at least) bubble-wrap style bags. Remember that the delicate ribbon can easily be damaged, so should also be kept protected.

PACKING FOR DELIVERY TO US

When sending your screens to us for refurbishment or recycling, it is essential that you provide enough protection to avoid further damage during delivery. We recommend that you use bubble-wrap or similar style protective bags for each screen before packing them in the box. If you don’t have the bags themselves, please surround the screens with ordinary bubble wrap. Any empty space remaining in the box should be completely filled with packing, preferably more bubble wrap or larger air-filled packaging. Please remember that these are only recommendations, and we cannot accept responsibility for screens damaged on their way to us. If in any doubt, please contact us via the regular contact form for further advice before posting your screens.
